Helpful Hair Design Courses

This Hair Design Course curriculum is mandated by the State of Washington. The following listed curriculum subjects include theory, anatomy, physiology, preparation, skill procedures, practices, products, material, implements, hair analysis, client consultation, record keeping, and safety.

The training is intended to prepare the student for the State of Washington Board of Examinations and entry-level employment in Cosmetology or related profession.

  • Theory of the Practice of Hair Design
  • Shampooing, including draping, brushing, scalp manipulations, scalp treatments, conditioning, and rinsing
  • Scalp and Hair Analysis, including examinations, consultation, and hair strand test
  • Haircutting and Trimming including scissors, razor, thinning shears, and clippers
  • Hairstyling, including wet, dry, and thermal styling, sets, braiding, and styling aids
  • Artificial Hair, including wigs, hairpieces, and extensions
  • Permanent Waving, including sectioning, wrapping, pre-perm test curl, solution application, processing test curl, and neutralizing
  • Chemical Relaxing, including sectioning, strand test, and relaxer application
  • Hair Coloring and Bleaching, including predisposition test and strand test, and measurement, mixing, and application
  • Disinfection of individual work station, individual equipment, and tools
  • Disease and Disorder and the scalp, hair, skin, and nails
  • Safety, including the proper use and storage of chemicals, implements, and electrical appliances
  • First Aid as it relates to Hair Design
  • 1400 Clock Hours must be completed by the student
